Origin
The Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii' Mix originates from West Africa, specifically from countries like Nigeria and Congo. The plant, also known as the Dwarf Mother-In-Law's Tongue, is primarily found in dry, rocky areas. It was only in the nineteenth century when the German botanist and horticulturalist Carl Hahn discovered the 'Hahnii' variant, which gives the plant its current name.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii' Mix are the short, wide leaves in the shape of rosettes. The leaves can vary in colour, from dark green to green with light yellow edges. A mature plant is typically 15 to 20 centimetres high. The plant's leaves are thick and fleshy, an adaptation that aids in water storage in its original dry habitat.
Care
In terms of care, the Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii' Mix is relatively low-maintenance. The plant needs little water and fares well in both bright and shady environments, though it does prefer indirect sunlight. It is crucial to prevent the root system from being submerged in water to avoid rot. To promote favourable growth conditions, it is beneficial to place the plant in well-draining soil and fertilise it only sporadically.
