Origin
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate' is an indoor plant in the Araliaceae family, originally from the humid, tropical regions of Australia and New Guinea. This species is also known as the 'Australian umbrella plant'. Over the years, it has been exported to many parts of the world and has now gained global recognition as a decorative indoor plant.
Characteristics
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate' is characterised by its glossy, dark green, palm-like leaves that grow out of long stems forming a kind of umbrella. The plant can reach up to 3 metres in height and in the summer it produces long, noticeable clusters of flowers, consisting of small red blooms. The leaves are not only beautiful, but also filter harmful substances from the air, contributing to a healthy living environment.
Care
For the care of the Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate', it is important to know that this plant likes a semi-shaded to light, indirect sunlight position, and regular, moderate watering. Although it is a subtropical plant, it does not tolerate extreme heat or cold. During the growth phase, the plant requires more water, whereas less may suffice in winter. An annual feed in the spring with a general fertiliser for indoor plants helps the plant to blossom and grow. It is also recommended to repot the plant every 2-3 years to support growth.
