Origin
Strelitzia nicolai is a plant species that originates from South Africa. The species grows in the subtropical coastal regions of this continent. In the wild, it often grows in groups along riverbanks and at the edges of forests. Strelitzia nicolai is related to other species within the Strelitzia genus.

Characteristics
This plant is a large, evergreen, herbaceous species with banana-like leaves. The leaves can reach up to two metres in length and are blue-green in colour. The flowers have striking white petals with a dark blue bract, and can grow to several tens of centimetres in size.

Care
Strelitzia nicolai grows best in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil in a bright location. The plant tolerates short periods of drought but requires regular watering. High humidity and sufficient space promote healthy growth. In temperate climates, the species is usually kept as a pot plant.
