Origin
The Strelitzia nicolai, better known as the White Bird of Paradise, is originally from South Africa. It primarily grows in the wild in coastal areas and lowland forests. The plant was brought to Europe in the 19th century and is named after Tsar Nicholas of Russia.

Characteristics
The Strelitzia nicolai is distinguished by its large, green leaves that can grow up to two metres long. The leaves are stiff, shiny and feather-shaped. The plant produces white flowers with a deep blue bird of paradise-like heart, which is where the nickname comes from. The White Bird of Paradise can reach a height of up to six meters.

Care
The Strelitzia nicolai requires a lot of light, but cannot handle direct sunlight. The soil should remain moist, but not too wet to prevent root rot. During the growth period, the plant regularly needs nourishment, and less during the winter months. For optimal growth, the plant tolerates temperatures between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius and requires a high humidity level.
