Origin
The Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the White Bird of Paradise, has its origins in the south of Africa. It is primarily found in South Africa and Mozambique, where it belongs in the forested areas. The plant is named after its country of origin, Czarina Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Characteristics
The Strelitzia nicolai is characterised by its large, distinctive banana leaves. Its elegant, exotic appearance contributes to its popularity as a houseplant. The plant can eventually grow into a giant of four meters and produce rare, eye-catching flowers. The flowers are large, white, and have a shape similar to a crane's head, hence the nickname White Bird of Paradise.

Care
The Strelitzia nicolai is a fairly easy houseplant to care for, provided it is treated properly. The plant requires plenty of light, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The soil must remain moist, but not soaked, so it is advised to give the plant small quantities of water regularly. At temperatures lower than 15 degrees Celsius, the plant can become damaged. To keep the plant healthy, additional fertilisation can be particularly beneficial during the growth season. Ideally, the Strelitzia nicolai should be repotted once a year to support optimal growth.
