Origin
Strelitzia reginae originates from South Africa. In the wild, it grows in open grasslands and rocky areas. This species was introduced to Europe as an ornamental plant in the eighteenth century. In other parts of the world, Strelitzia reginae is mainly cultivated as an indoor and garden plant.

Characteristics
Strelitzia reginae is a perennial that can reach up to two metres in height. The plant has sturdy, elongated leaves with a dark green colour. The flowers are orange with blue accents and have a striking, bird-like appearance. Each flower stem can carry several flowers, often three or more. Flowering occurs from late winter to early spring.

Care
Strelitzia reginae requires plenty of light to thrive. The plant has a moderate need for water and tolerates short periods of drought. Well-draining potting soil is essential. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. Regular feeding supports flowering and growth.
