Origin
The Strelitzia reginae originates from South Africa, where it naturally grows along riverbanks and in open grasslands. The species was introduced to Europe in the eighteenth century.

Characteristics
This plant has large, leathery leaves held on long stalks. Its striking flowers are vivid in colour, typically orange and blue. The inflorescence has a unique shape reminiscent of an exotic bird’s head. In the wild, Strelitzia reginae can reach up to two metres in height.

Care
Strelitzia reginae grows best with plenty of light and a warm temperature. The plant requires well-draining soil. It is important to water regularly, but the roots should not be left standing in water. In temperate climates, this plant is often kept as a pot plant indoors.
