Origin
The Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Zenzi', often also simply referred to as Zamioculcas or ZZ plant, has its origin in East Africa. This plant can be found in Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar in Tanzania where it grows in rocky soil at low altitudes.
Characteristics
The Zamioculcas 'Zenzi' is a compact version of the standard Zamioculcas plant. This species is characterised by its deep green, glossy leaves which are formed in a zigzag pattern. Unlike its larger counterpart, the 'Zenzi' remains relatively small, making it an ideal plant for smaller spaces. The plant grows slowly and has thick, potato-like tubers under the ground, which store water for drier periods.
Care
The Zamioculcas 'Zenzi' is an easy plant to care for as it can survive a wide range of conditions. It's a very resilient species, capable of surviving in low light and with minimal water. Although it appreciates growth with sufficient light, direct sunlight burns the leaves. As for watering, it is often sufficient to water the plant once a week, as overwatering can lead to root system rotting. The 'Zenzi' needs mild fertilisation during the growth period in the spring and summer.
