Origin
The Tillandsia Clump L., also known as an air plant, originally hails from the forests, mountains and deserts of Central and South America. This epiphytic plant typically grows without soil, on the branches, trunks and leaves of other trees and plants. They have a very diverse habitat, varying from rainforests to semi-deserts.
Characteristics
The Tillandsia Clump L. is an evergreen plant with thin, sprawling leaves that are light grey or silvery in colour. The leaves have specialised cells (trichomes) that draw water and nutrients from the air. The Tillandsia Clump L. develops distinctive flowers in vibrant blue to purple hues, typically in the late winter or early spring, and often produces multiple offsets (pups) post-bloom.
Care
Care for the Tillandsia Clup L. involves the plant requiring bright indirect light and good air ventilation. Watering is preferably executed by spraying the plant two to three times a week or submerging it in a water bath once a week. The plant cannot stay in water for long periods and it is crucial that the plant is completely dry after watering to prevent rot. Do not use standard potting soil for this plant, but opt for materials that let in air and light such as bark or stringy moss.
