Origin
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum', also known as the Spider Plant, originally comes from South Africa. The plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family, which is mainly known for its graceful and lush green foliage ornamental plants. The Spider Plant was introduced to Europe in the 19th century where it remains a popular houseplant to this day.

Characteristics
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' is a striking plant with long, graceful leaves that are green in colour with white stripes. The plant can grow up to a height of 60 cm and is a fast-growing species. The Spider Plant produces small white flowers on hanging stems and after flowering, young plants can develop on these stems. Perhaps the most notable characteristic of the Spider Plant is the fact that the plant, despite its tropical origin, thrives very well in a wide range of climates.

Care
The plant requires little care and can stand in both semi-shade and full sun, although the latter can lead to colour loss of the foliage. The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' likes well-draining soil and regular watering, without the soil becoming waterlogged. In the growing period, from spring to autumn, the plant benefits from a monthly gift of liquid houseplant food. With the right care, the Spider Plant can live up to 15 years.
