Origin
The Phalaenopsis Amadeus, also known as the Butterfly Orchid, has its origin in the tropical areas of Asia, especially in the Philippines and Indonesia. It is a popular choice in the world of orchids, thanks to its exotic appearance and relatively simple care. It's an epiphytic type of orchid, which means it naturally grows on the bark of trees, rather than in the ground.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Amadeus is characterised by its large, elegant flowers, ranging in colour from white to light pink. The plant has a long flowering period, mainly between the winter and early spring, but sometimes even extending into the summer. The plant forms a compact whole and usually grows to a height of 30 to 60 centimetres. The leaves of the plant are thick and fleshy, and generally dark green in colour.
Care
The care for the Phalaenopsis Amadeus is relatively simple compared to other types of orchids. It prefers a light but indirect sun, and temperatures between 20-25 degrees Celsius. Regular watering is important, but overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. It's also recommended to feed the plant with a special orchid fertiliser during the growing and flowering period.
