Vriesea Red

Origin
The Vriesea Red is an exotic plant species originally from the rainforests of Central and South America. The plant is named after Willem Hendrik de Vriese, a famous Dutch botanist from the 19th century. It is a member of the Bromeliad family, a diverse group of plant species known for their striking and colourful flowers.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Vriesea Red are the broad spreading green leaves and the striking red flower calyx. This calyx consists of numerous thin, bright red petals that grow in a unique sword-like shape. The plant can grow to a height of about 60 centimetres. The Vriesea Red is also known as sword bromeliad due to the shape of its flowers.

Care
For the care of the Vriesea Red, sufficient indirect light is important, without the plant being exposed to direct sunlight. The plant has a preference for high humidity, similar to its natural rainforest environment. Unlike many other plants, the Vriesea Red absorbs water through its leaves instead of its roots, therefore, it is recommended to regularly spray the plant. The temperature for optimal growth is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.
