Origin
Liriope spicata, commonly known as the creeping lilyturf, originates from East Asia. The plant finds its origin in countries such as Japan, China, and Vietnam where it naturally occurs in forests and grasslands.
Characteristics
Liriope spicata is an evergreen perennial plant with grass-like leaves and inflorescences that stand out due to their presence of flowers in the summer and berries in autumn. The plant grows to about 30 to 45 cm in height. The flowers are generally lavender in colour, while the berries are a striking bright blue.
Care
In terms of positioning, the Liriope spicata prefers partial to full shade; however, it can also grow in full sun, provided it gets enough water. This low-maintenance plant prefers well-drained soil and does not have specific soil type requirements. It is recommended to cut back old foliage in the spring to promote new growth. For profuse flowering, it may be helpful to fertilise the plant in the spring.
