Origin
The Primula elatior, also known as the Oxlip, is a plant species native to Europe. The plant originates from the forests and meadows of Central and Southern Europe. In some parts of Europe, such as France and Poland, this plant is rare and protected.
Characteristics
The Primula elatior is a perennial, herbaceous plant with a height between 10 and 30 centimetres. It has soft, egg-shaped leaves and funnel-shaped flowers located on long stems. The colour of the flowers varies from light yellow to dark yellow, but sometimes also orange. It generally blooms from April to June, with lightly sweet-smelling flowers.
Care
For optimal growth, the Primula elatior needs a position in partial shade or full shade, with well-draining, moist soil. This plant does not like prolonged drought, so regular watering is necessary. During the growing season, it is recommended to fertilise the plant regularly. To promote flowering, the wilted bloom should be removed.
