Origin
The Thymus x citriodorus, also known as Lemon Thyme, originated from a hybrid of two types of thyme, namely Thymus pulegioides and Thymus vulgaris. This plant originally comes from the Mediterranean region, but can now be found all over the world.
Characteristics
Thymus x citriodorus is an evergreen, hardy shrub that grows up to 30 centimetres tall. The leaves are small, oval in shape and have a strong lemon scent. In the summer, the plant produces lilac flowers that are attractive to bees. Thanks to its strong lemon scent, this plant is often used in cooking and perfumery.
Care
This plant prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Thymus x citriodorus is drought tolerant, which means the plant needs little water to grow. In addition, it is recommended to prune annually to maintain the shape of the shrub and encourage the production of new leaves. Although the plant is hardy, protection should be provided in severe frost.
