Origin
The Thuja occidentalis 'Holmstrup', also known as the Holmstrup Arborvitae, is a conifer originally from North America. It's a cultivated variety named after the Danish nursery where it was first introduced, the Holmstrup Nursery. The Holmstrup Arborvitae belongs to the cypress family and predominantly grows in the more temperate parts of the continent.
Characteristics
The Thuja occidentalis 'Holmstrup' is a compact and slow-growing conifer. The plant has a pyramidal shape and reaches a height of approximately 3 to 5 metres. The needles are bright green and remain on the plant throughout the year. This conifer has a robust bark, and during the blooming season, small cone-shaped fruits appear.
Care
Thuja occidentalis 'Holmstrup' is a relatively low-maintenance plant that is well adapted to various climates and soil types. Despite the conifer being drought resistant, it does require extra water during dry periods. Sunlight is important for this plant, so it should be placed in a spot with full sun to partial shade. Annual pruning is not necessary but can be done to maintain the desired shape.
