Origin
The Ilex crenata Dark Green, also known as the Japanese Holly, originally comes from the East of Asia. This plant can be found in several countries, including Japan, Korea and parts of China and Siberia. It belongs to the family of Aquifoliaceae and is highly valued for its decorative properties.
Characteristics
The Ilex crenata Dark Green is characterized by its shiny, dark green, small leaves which add a unique and refined texture to the landscape. This evergreen shrub grows slowly to a height of 2 to 3 meters, with a similar or slightly larger spread. In late spring, inconspicuous white flowers appear, followed by small, black, inconspicuous berries.
Care
When caring for the Ilex crenata Dark Green, it is important to know that this plant prefers lightly acidic, well-drained soil and a sunny to semi-shady location. However, too much direct sunlight can fade the leaves. Regular pruning helps to maintain the shape and size of this shrub. Although the plant is resistant to drought, it thrives best with regular watering except in winter. The use of a slow-release fertiliser in the spring is highly recommended to promote the plant's health and vitality.
