Origin
The Armeria pseudarmeria 'Ballerina Red', also known as the red thrift, has its origin in Southwestern Europe, specifically in Portugal and Spain. It is an ancestor of the Armeria pseudarmeria, a plant that naturally grows in coastal areas. This type has been introduced and further developed by growers over the years, ultimately leading to the 'Ballerina Red' variety.

Characteristics
The Armeria pseudarmeria 'Ballerina Red' is characterised by its spherical flowers of a deep red colour that sprout from a tuft of grass-like, dark green leaves. The plant usually reaches a height and width of 30 to 40 centimetres. The flowers bloom from late spring to early autumn, with the plant tending to continually bloom if the faded flowers are regularly removed.

Care
In terms of care, the Armeria pseudarmeria 'Ballerina Red' requires a sunny location and well-draining soil. Although the plant is drought resistant, it performs best with regular watering, especially during dry periods. Winter hardiness is another characteristic of this plant, which can survive down to -10 degrees Celsius, making it perfect for temperate climates. It is recommended to remove faded flowers to promote further blooming.
