Origin
The Sedum oreganum, also known as Oregon Stonecrop, originates from North America. This particular species mainly exists in the moderate zones of Canada and the United States. The plant feels most at home in rocky terrains and is frequently discovered on the towering mountains of Oregon till British Columbia.
Characteristics
The Sedum oreganum is a low-growing, wintergreen perennial that is known for its robustness. The plant blooms from July to September with small, yellow flowers that grow in a flat roof garden. The leaves of the Sedum oreganum are thick and succulent, coloured green with occasional red hues. These leaves can grow up to 1 cm long and have a unique property that they can store water, enabling the plant to survive drought periods.
Care
When caring for the Sedum oreganum, it is important to mimic its natural habitat. They thrive best in a sunny, dry environment with well-draining soil. Concerning the soil, they are not very demanding, however, excessive moisture can cause root rot. To keep the Sedum oreganum healthy, it is advisable to protect the plant in winter from excessive moisture and cold. This plant has a relatively low nutritional requirement and therefore does not need to be fed often.
