F00003854
Origin
The Dianthus Silver Stars Supernova originates from the genus Dianthus, which belongs to the family of carnations (Caryophyllaceae). This genus includes between 300 and 450 species, which naturally occur in Europe and Asia. This specific species, the Dianthus Silver Stars Supernova, has its origin in the crossing of several of these Dianthus species.
Characteristics
The plant is particularly recognisable by its flowers: the striking white petals with a bright, silver-speckled pattern result in a 'supernova' effect. The plant can reach a height of approximately 30 to 40 centimetres. Also characteristic are the narrow, pointed leaves, which grow close together and have a blue-green colour. The Dianthus Silver Stars Supernova blooms in the summer and can continue to bloom into the autumn in some conditions.
Care
The care of the Dianthus Silver Stars Supernova is relatively straightforward. It prefers well-draining soil and a sunny location. As for watering, the plant has an average need. It is sufficient to keep the soil moist, without a build-up of water. Although the plant is hardy, it is advisable to protect it during extreme cold. Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage new blooms.
