Origin
The Sundaville, also known as Dipladenia, is originally from Central and South America. It's a tropical plant that grows in the warm climates of Brazil, Bolivia, and Colombia. Over the years, the plant has spread to various parts of the world, in part due to its decorative properties.
Characteristics
The Sundaville is an elegant, climbing plant characterised by its glossy, dark green leaves and large, trumpet-shaped flowers. The flowers have a striking deep red or fuchsia colour, although varieties now also exist with white or pink flowers. In general, the plant blooms from the late spring until autumn.
Care
When it comes to the care of the Sundaville, it prefers warm and sunny conditions, but can also tolerate partial shade. The plant needs a well-drained, slightly moist soil and needs to be fertilised regularly to ensure continuous flowering. Despite its tropical origin, the Sundaville can tolerate reasonably low temperatures but it is advisable to keep it indoors during the winter months to avoid frost damage.
