Origin
The Polaskia chichipe is a type of cactus originating from Central America, especially Mexico. It's predominantly found in arid, rocky areas where it survives well due to its adaptability. This cactus is part of the Cactaceae family and is also known as the Stenocereus chichipe.
Characteristics
The Polaskia chichipe is a robust, tree-like cactus that can reach a height of 4 to 6 meters when mature. This plant has a grey-green colour and dispensed ribs covered with dark thorns. The bloom of the Polaskia chichipe is characterised by white-pink flowers that open at night and have a diameter of roughly 5-6 cm. In late spring or early summer, this cactus produces edible fruits that are red to purple in colour.
Care
For a healthy growth of the Polaskia chichipe, a sunny location and well-drained soil is required. Although this plant is drought-tolerant, it is recommended to water moderately during the growing season. It's important to prevent the plant from getting water in winter as this can lead to root rot. The Polaskia chichipe is quite resistant to pests but can suffer from spider mites and mealybugs if the conditions become too dry.
