DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Ficus benjamina 'Danita', also known as weeping fig, has its origin in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. In the wild, it usually grows in tropical rainforests, where it is warm and humid. The name 'benjamina' is derived from the local word 'benjan', which means 'dew'. This refers to the characteristic way in which the leaves catch morning dew.

Characteristics
The Ficus benjamina 'Danita' is a popular indoor plant, due to its attractive growth style and the glossy leaves. The plant has small, light green, oval leaves that grow closely together. The 'Danita' variant is well-known for its compact shape and the somewhat lower hanging branches, which give the plant its mature appearance. The plant can grow up to three metres tall, but usually stays somewhat smaller indoors.

Care
Although the Ficus benjamina 'Danita' is originally from tropical regions, it has adapted quite well to indoor conditions. The plant requires a light location but can also cope with partial shade. Prevent direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves. When watering, it's important to keep the soil somewhat moist at all times, but ensure that the plant definitely doesn't stand in water. The plant doesn't need much specific nutrition, but functions well on universal houseplant fertiliser. It's recommended to feed the plant once every two weeks during the growing season.
