Origin
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Golden Amate', better known as the Australian Ivy Palm, finds its origin in the tropical rainforests of Australia and New Guinea. In these areas, the plant grows into a huge tree. Since the 19th century, this species has also been cultivated as a houseplant in Europe.
Characteristics
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Golden Amate' is a popular houseplant due to its distinctive look. The plant has long, succulent stems and large, shiny, finger-shaped leaves. The colour of the leaves ranges from light green to dark green with yellow specks. In its native habitat, the 'Golden Amate' can grow up to 15 meters tall, but as a houseplant the height remains limited to about two metres.
Care
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Golden Amate' needs a bright location, but should be protected from direct sunlight. It's important to water the plant regularly, but avoid letting the roots stay in water. In addition, it's advisable to fertilise the plant in spring and summer. Like other tropical plants, the 'Golden Amate' prefers high humidity, so it is recommended to mist it regularly.
