Origin
The Areca catechu dwarf, also known as the dwarf palm, has its origin in Malaysia and the Philippines. It is a popular houseplant that belongs to the Arecaceae family, known for its tropical species of palms.
Characteristics
The Areca catechu dwarf distinguishes itself by its small, compact size, ideal for indoor use. The plant is characterised by a thick trunk with feathery leaves of a bright, vibrant green colour. The leaves of the dwarf palm can grow up to 2 metres in length. The trunk contains rings formed by dropped leaves, creating a unique pattern.
Care
In terms of care, the Areca catechu dwarf prefers a well-lit location, but not direct sunlight. The plant thrives best at a constant temperature of around 20°C. When watering, moderation is important, the soil needs to remain moist but not soaked. Fertilising is beneficial for this plant, and is best done in spring or summer with the correct palm fertiliser.
