Origin
The Bismarckia nobilis, also known as the Bismarck palm, has its origin in Madagascar. This impressive island is famous for its unique flora and fauna, and the Bismarckia nobilis is an iconic example of this. The palm thrives in dry grasslands and at elevations up to 1000 metres above sea level.

Characteristics
The Bismarckia nobilis is a majestic palm that can reach a height of 15 to 20 metres. The trunk is solitary, discolouring from grey to brown, and crowned with a fan of large, bluish-grey leaves. The leaves can reach a maximum diameter of 3 metres. The flowers of this palm are small, discreet and unisexual, which means that there are both male and female flowers on the same plant.

Care
The care of the Bismarckia nobilis requires a warm climate, preferably subtropical or tropical. The palm can withstand drought once mature but needs regular watering as a young palm. It prefers full sun and therefore a lot of light, and does well in well-drained soil. It is important to know that the Bismarckia nobilis grows slowly and thus takes some time to reach its impressive size.
