4CALCBP12
Origin
The Calathea 'Marion' originates from tropical South America. This exotic houseplant primarily occurs in the rainforests of Brazil. It belongs to the Marantaceae family and the Calathea genus, which is globally renowned for its diverse varieties and unique leaf patterns.
Characteristics
The Calathea 'Marion' is characterised by its beautifully marked leaves. The top of the leaf portrays a dark green pattern, while the underside is usually purple. The plant grows by forming new leaves from the centre, which slowly unfold. This houseplant is known by multiple names, including the Peacock plant, due to the beautiful design on the leaves reminiscent of a peacock feather.
Care
The Calathea 'Marion' needs high humidity, and it will, therefore, thrive in a bathroom or kitchen. It prefers indirect light, but it can also survive in light shade. The plant requires regular watering, but it doesn't like being immersed in water. It would be best to let the plant dry out between watering sessions. The use of low-lime water is also essential, as this plant is sensitive to lime.
