Origin
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum', more commonly known as the variegated hanging plant, has its origin in South Africa. There, the plant grows in forests and on the edges of forests and grasslands. In the Netherlands and other countries outside its original growing area, the plant is often kept as a houseplant.
Characteristics
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' is an evergreen, perennial plant with a hanging growth habit. The most distinctive feature of this plant are its long, hanging shoots, which, with good care, can produce new plants. This plant is particularly recognisable by its variegated leaves, which show a combination of green with white stripes. The Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' blooms with white flowers, although they rarely appear indoors.
Care
Maintaining the Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' is quite simple and does not require extensive knowledge. The plant requires a bright location, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. Watering should be done sparingly, ensuring that the soil dries out slightly between watering. Excess water should always be drained well to prevent root rot. By fertilising regularly during the growing season, the plant stays healthy and retains its colour.
