DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Aloe 'Comptonii' originally hails from the southern part of Africa, in particular South Africa and Namibia. It is a hybrid of two other species of aloe, namely Aloe striata and Aloe comptonii. The plant owes this unique genetic combination to its natural habitat, where both parent plants occur in the wild.

Characteristics
The Aloe 'Comptonii' is a succulent, which means it can store water in its leaves, stem and roots. The plant has a rosette-shaped growth habit in which the leaves grow in a circle around the central stem. The leaves are thick, fleshy and have a greyish green colour. Notable are the red or orange flowers that bloom in winter and early spring, on tall stems that protrude deeply above the leaf rosettes.

Care
The care of the Aloe 'Comptonii' is relatively simple as it is a drought-tolerant plant, due to its succulent properties. The plant needs plenty of sun and well-draining soil to prevent the roots from standing in water. In colder climates, it's advisable to keep this plant indoors or in a pot outside so it can be brought inside during cold weather. The Aloe 'Comptonii' requires little water and should ideally be watered when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering can cause root rot, which can be deadly for the plant.
