Characteristics
The Trachycarpus fortunei belongs to the family of palm trees and has a powerful, solitary growth habit. Its thick, fibrous trunk and large, fan-shaped leaves form a striking appearance. A mature plant can reach a height of 12 metres. A special characteristic is its high winter hardiness, making this palm species well suited for survival in cold climates.
Care
The Trachycarpus fortunei has a moderate need for water, it is important to prevent the plant from standing in water. It is recommended to place the plant in a sunny or semi-shaded location in well-draining soil. During the winter months, the plant can be protected against cold by binding straw around the trunk. Pruning is only needed when old or dead leaves hang on the plant.
