Aeschynanthus 'Japhrolepis'
Hanger
4AEJAHA10
Origin
The Tradescantia zebrina 'Pink Paradise' originates from Central and North America where this plant grows in the wild. It is a variety of the Tradescantia zebrina, a plant species from the Commelinaceae family. The name was first published by botanist Carl Linnaeus in 1753, but today it is best known under the name 'Wandering Dude'.
Characteristics
Tradescantia zebrina 'Pink Paradise' is a striking houseplant with its two-tone rosette-shaped leaves. These leaves are striped with dark pink and light green colours, giving them an almost velvet-like appearance. The plant predominantly grows downwards and can reach a length of about 1.2 meters. Under optimal conditions, the 'Pink Paradise' can also produce small three-pointed purple flowers, which usually appear in the spring.
Care
For the care of the Tradescantia zebrina 'Pink Paradise', it is important to know that the plant is most comfortable with indirect light and an average room temperature. Too much direct sunlight can cause the colours of the leaves to fade. The plant has few requirements for the soil but does not tolerate water-saturated soil. It is therefore advisable to ensure well-draining potting soil and only water the plant when the top layer of the soil feels dry. In addition, the plant can be lightly fertilised during the growing period.
