Origin
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii, also known as the nerve plant, is a houseplant originally from the tropical rainforests of South America. The plant's habitat stretches from Peru to Brazil. There, the plant grows in spaces with little light under the dense canopy of taller trees and plants.
Characteristics
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii is known for its striking leaf pattern. The foliage consists of small, feathered leaves with a dark green colour, which form a noticeable contrast with the vibrant veins. The veins often have a lively pink or white colour and run in a complex pattern across the leaves. Moreover, the plant is a relatively small plant and does not grow taller than about 15 centimetres.
Care
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii enjoys high humidity levels and does not cope well with direct sunlight. Therefore, the plant is best kept in a warm place with indirect light. The plant likes consistently moist soil, but should not be left standing in water. On the whole, this plant has a higher water requirement than other houseplants, and some knowledge of plant care is required to maintain the plant optimally.
