Origin
The Taxus baccata 'David' is a type of yew family and has its origin in Western Europe and North Africa. This variant is named after one of the most prominent yew nurseries in England, David's Nursery. In the wild, you can often find this tree in forests and hedges.
Characteristics
The Taxus baccata 'David' is an evergreen shrub with a dense, compact shape. The plant has dark green needle-shaped leaves that grow in pairs on the branches. In the autumn, it gets cone-shaped red berries that contrast with the dark leaves. The shrub has a very slow growth rate and eventually reaches two to three meters in height.
Care
The Taxus baccata 'David' requires little care. The plant grows well in all soil types, although it has a slight preference for well-drained, calcareous soils. It needs both sun and shade and can tolerate pruning well. An annual prune in the spring helps maintain the neat form. Watering is usually not necessary, except in very dry periods.
