Origin
The Cedrus libani 'Glauca', otherwise known as the Blue Cedar, is an original species from Lebanon. It is a variety of the Lebanon cedar, a tree indigenous to the mountains of the eastern Mediterranean. This tree has been valued for centuries for its wood and resin, which have played a significant role in the ancient civilizations of Phoenicia, Egypt, and Greece.
Characteristics
The Glauca is distinguished by its strongly blue-green needles, which makes it quite unique among cedar trees. The Bonsai variety of this tree generally grows wide and flat. The tree produces cones that are oval in shape and solid when mature. The tree's growth is slow, making it excellently suited for planting in small gardens or as a specimen tree in a larger landscape.
Care
The Cedrus libani 'Glauca' is a hardy tree species and can handle a range of weather conditions, tolerating both drought and cold. It grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Although the tree requires little maintenance, regular pruning is recommended to maintain the shape and remove dead or diseased branches. The tree tolerates transplantation very well, which makes it a good choice for transplanting or relocating.
