Origin
Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Overdam' is a decorative grass that originates from a cross between two other species from the genus Calamagrostis. The grass has its origin in parts of Europe and Asia. The plant has been cultivated for many years for its decorative properties and is popular in landscape architecture.

Characteristics
Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Overdam' is an upright growing grass that can reach heights between 60 and 90 centimetres. In the spring and summer, the plant turns green with white stripes, while the autumn and winter gives it a more gold-brown appearance. The inflorescence consists of plume-shaped heads that protrude above the canopy and take on a purple hue during bloom. The leaves are narrow and sharp, which explains the name 'acutiflora' or 'sharp flower'.

Care
Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Overdam' requires a spot in full sun, but it can also grow in places with partial shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and can withstand drought reasonably well. The plant requires little maintenance, but to ensure it maintains its compact form, it is recommended to prune back the grass late in the winter or early in the spring to about 10 centimetres above the ground. It is not necessary to fertilise this grass.
