Origin
The Ferocactus townsendianus originates from the desert regions of Baja California in Mexico. Here, this type of cactus has adapted to the extreme climate and dry conditions of the Sonora Desert. It is a species found on rocky slopes, often on limestone, where it thrives in full sun.

Characteristics
The Ferocactus townsendianus has a cylindrical shape that can grow up to a height of 3 meters with a diameter of 60 cm. The trunk is green in colour and covered with long, curved thorns. The thorns can vary from grey, red to black. It has striking yellow or red flowers that appear in the summer. This type of cactus has 7 to 10 ribs that are shrouded in woolly areoles.

Care
The Ferocactus townsendianus requires minimal care. Due to its origin in dry desert regions, this type of cactus requires well-drained soil and periodic watering. In the winter, the watering should be further limited, as overwatering can lead to rot. Full sunlight is essential for the healthy growth of this plant. And although the Ferocactus townsendianus is hardy, protection from severe frost is recommended to prevent damage to the plant.
