Origin
The Pachypodium densiflorum, also known as the Madagascar palm, has its origin in Madagascar. This exotic desert plant is found in the dry and rocky areas of the island. Despite its name, the Madagascar palm is not actually a palm, but belongs to the family of periwinkles.

Characteristics
Pachypodium densiflorum is a succulent with a striking trunk covered in thick spikes. It produces cunning branches with oval, undulating leaves at the ends. The plant blooms from late spring to summer with dense clusters of yellow flowers. The flowers are followed by long, slender seed pods that turn black as they ripen.

Care
The Pachypodium densiflorum has a strong preference for well-drained soil and full sun, but can also survive in light shade. The plant requires little water, especially in winter when it is in a rest period. Care should be taken when repotting this plant because of its sharp spikes. For optimal growth and flowering, a moderate supply of liquid cactus feed during the growing season can be beneficial.
