Origin
The Polaskia chichipe is a cactus species native to Mexico. It is a cactus often found in lowland desert areas and on limestone slopes. The natural habitat of this plant varies from the semi-desert areas to the dry forests of Central and South Mexico.
Characteristics
The Polaskia chichipe is characterised by its columnar, vertically growing trunk that can reach up to 8 metres in height in mature specimens. The up to seven centimetre long spikes of this cactus are anchored in its ribs. In full sunlight, this cactus adopts a reddish or grey-green colour. The flowers of the Polaskia chichipe are yellow-green in colour and appear in late winter or early spring.
Care
For the care of the Polaskia chichipe, it is important that the cactus is located in full sun to partial shade, where it can benefit from sufficient light. The cactus requires well-draining soil in order to prevent root rot. Additionally, it's important to provide moderate watering during the summer months and allow the soil to completely dry up between watering times. In winter, the plant needs little to no water. The Polaskia chichipe is a frost-resistant cactus, but long periods of cold and moisture can be harmful.
