Origin
The Eriocactus leninghausii, better known as the Golden ball cactus, originates from the dry areas of South America, especially Brazil. This cactus has adapted to life in extreme weather conditions, with especially hot summers and cold winters.
Characteristics
The Eriocactus leninghausii is a relatively small species with a spherical to somewhat cylindrical shape. The most distinctive characteristic is the density and colour of the spines, which are golden yellow and have a sort of woolly structure. This cactus can reach a height of 10 to 15 cm and has small, yellow flowers that appear in spring and summer.
Care
As a desert plant, the Eriocactus leninghausii has a high light requirement and thrives in direct sunlight. Watering should be done sparingly, especially in winter, to prevent rot. The plant needs well-draining soil and performs well at temperatures between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius. Overfertilisation should be avoided as it can harm the plant.
