Origin
The Ficus benjamina 'Golden King', commonly known as the 'Golden King' weeping fig, originates from Southeast Asia and Australia. There, the plant primarily grows in tropical rainforests. The 'Golden King' is a cultivated variant of the original species, specially developed for indoor use.
Characteristics
The Ficus benjamina 'Golden King' is a popular houseplant thanks to its striking leaves. The foliage of this plant can grow up to 3 meters high, is oval, shiny and bears an impressive golden-yellow edge, hence its name. In nature, this species can reach a height of 30 meters, but indoors it rarely achieves such dimensions. Furthermore, this Ficus produces small, inconspicuous flowers.
Care
The Ficus benjamina 'Golden King' requires a bright environment but does not tolerate direct sunlight. It thrives best at constant temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius. Like many other Ficus species, the 'Golden King' desires high humidity; thus, a humidifier or regular misting is recommended. This can also help to remove dust from the leaves. The soil should always be kept slightly moist, but avoid excessive watering in order to prevent root rot.
