Origin
The Ficus benghalensis, also known as the Indian rubber plant, is originally from India and surrounding countries. Today, it's spread across tropical areas throughout the world. In the wild, the plant grows to gigantic proportions and is known for its aerial roots.

Characteristics
The Ficus benghalensis is an evergreen, fig-like plant. The plant has an unusual growth form, in which it forms secondary trunks via aerial roots that droop to the ground. The leaves of the Ficus benghalensis are thick, leathery, dark green, and shiny. It also produces small fruits, which are only edible when fully ripe.

Care
The Ficus benghalensis prefers a bright, sunny location, but can also survive in a spot with indirect sunlight. It has a relatively high moisture requirement, so regular watering is necessary, especially during the growing season. In winter, water intake needs to be reduced. The plant cannot tolerate cold, so it should be brought indoors or kept in a warm place during winter. On the other hand, it does not cope well with stagnant indoor air, so it's recommended to occasionally place it outside for ventilation.
