Characteristics
The Ficus umbellata is a tree-like species of plant that can grow up to 36 metres high in the wild. It's an evergreen plant with leaves generally oval or heart shaped, measures ranging 5 to 25 centimetres. The plant produces distinctive, red fruit that serves as an important food source for indigenous birds and animals.
Care
When cultivating the Ficus umbellata indoors, it's important to choose a warm and well-lit spot as the plant enjoys plenty of light, but not direct sunlight. This species of ficus prefers a consistently warm temperature, between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius. In terms of soil, the plant prefers well-drained potting soil, and water should be applied when the top layer of the soil feels dry. Overwatering should be avoided as it can lead to root rot.
