Origin
The Campanula portenschlagiana, known as the Dalmatian bellflower, is a low-growing perennial coming from the mountain regions of Croatia. This plant is primarily found in rocky areas, which explains why it thrives in well-drained soil conditions and prefers sunny locations in garden settings.

Characteristics
The Dalmatian bellflower belongs to the Campanulaceae family. The plant is characterised by its blue to purple-blue bell-shaped flowers that bloom from June to August. The plant reaches a height of approximately 15 to 25 centimeters, making it an ideal groundcover. In addition, the Campanula portenschlagiana spreads itself easily, enabling it to cover large areas quickly.

Care
For optimal growth of the Campanula portenschlagiana, it is crucial that the plant is planted in sunny to moderately shaded places with well-draining soil. Although the plant is drought-tolerant, it performs best with regular watering, especially during dry periods. To keep the plant compact and flowering, it is advisable to cut back the flowers after they have bloomed. An annual application of general garden fertiliser in the spring will contribute to healthy growth and flowering.
