Origin
The Photinia x fraseri 'Carré Rouge', often simply referred to as 'Carré Rouge', is a cultivar originating from the Rosaceae family. The species, Photinia x fraseri, is native to the southeastern United States and East Asia. It is a hybrid created by the crossing of Photinia glabra and Photinia serratifolia.

Characteristics
The 'Carré Rouge' is known for its spectacular red leaves. The young shoots of the plant are bright red, which gradually turns green as the leaf develops. The plant flowers in the spring with white flower clusters and bears small red berries in the autumn. The mature plant can reach a height of about 3 meters, but the growth habit and size can vary depending on the conditions.

Care
This ornamental plant requires relatively little maintenance. A sunny to semi-shaded location with a well-draining soil is ideal for the 'Carré Rouge'. It's important to water the plant well, mainly during dry periods. Pruning can take place in the spring, after blooming, to maintain the shape of the plant and stimulate new, red shoots. Fertiliser can be added in the spring to promote growth and blooming.
