Origin
The Archontophoenix alexandrae, also known as the Alexandra palm, is native to Eastern Australia. The plant thrives in the natural rainforests and coastal regions of this area. The name is derived from Alexandra, the Princess of Wales, who became the queen of the United Kingdom.
Characteristics
The Archontophoenix alexandrae is a large palm species, capable of reaching up to 25 meters in height. The tree has a slender trunk with a diameter of about 25 centimeters. The leaves are glossy green and fan out. This palm also has attractive purple-red flowers which usually appear in winter.
Care
In terms of care, the Archontophoenix alexandrae requires full sun to partial shade to thrive. The soil must be well-drained to prevent the roots from becoming too waterlogged. This palm prefers a tropical or subtropical climate, and is not frost-resistant. This necessitates bringing the plant indoors if temperatures get too low. Moreover, the potting soil should regularly be moistened, but not soaked through.
