Origin
The Latania lontaroides, also known as the Blue Latan Palm, originates from the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean, a remote group of islands east of Madagascar. This exotic plant currently only exists on the island of Réunion.

Characteristics
The Blue Latan Palm can be easily identified by its blue-grey to silvery leaves that form a distinctive fan pattern. Once fully grown, the palms can reach a height of up to 10 meters. The trunk of this species is thick and robust, with a diameter of up to 30 centimetres. Additionally, the plant is recognisable by its fruit, which are small, round and change colour from red to black as they ripen.

Care
In terms of care, the Latania lontaroides should be planted in well-drained soil and prefers full sunlight, although it tolerates partial shade. During its growth phase, the plant needs a lot of water, though this decreases once it has fully grown. It is also important for the temperature range to lie between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius for optimal growth. While the plant is resistant to light frost, it is vulnerable to drought and high salt concentrations in the soil.
