Origin
The Rhapis humilis, also known as the Slender Lady Palm, has its origins in South China. This species of plant grows wild on the forested slopes of the mountains, where it enjoys the temperate climate. Although its origin lies in China, the Rhapis humilis has over time become popular in other parts of the world for both landscape and indoor use.
Characteristics
The Rhapis humilis is a versatile, slow-growing palm with attractive, fan-shaped leaves. It can reach a height of up to four metres, and its trunks are covered with fibrous sheaths. This palm has dark green, glossy leaves, consisting of five to eight segments. The leaves can have a length of about 60 to 75 centimetres.
Care
The care of the Rhapis humilis involves regular watering, applying fertiliser, and pruning of yellow leaves. Try to place the palm in indirect light, since direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. In addition, the Rhapis humilis thrives well in high humidity and prefers well-drained soil. Regular fertilisation during the growth period encourages the plant to produce healthy leaves.
