Origin
The Philodendron Choco Red originates from the rainforest of South America, where it typically grows as a hemiepiphyte, initially starting on the forest floor and climbing trees for light. In the wild, this plant prefers to grow in a sheltered environment with high humidity. The plant was originally discovered in Colombia.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Philodendron Choco Red is the dark red to almost chocolate brown leaf. The large, heart-shaped leaves are juicy and shiny and can reach a size up to 60 cm. The mature leaves have fenestrations, which are recognisable as natural holes or slits. The Philodendron Choco Red grows in the form of a vine and produces air roots with which it can attach itself to trees or structures.
Care
In terms of care, the Philodendron Choco Red prefers well-drained soil and a location with indirect sunlight. It is important to allow the soil to lightly dry out between watering, as the plant does not like too much water. High humidity is recommended, which can be achieved by spraying or by using a humidifier. The plant grows optimally at a temperature between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.
