Aglaonema 'Cutlass' 6/tray
Tuft
4AGCUBU03
Origin
The Sansevieria zeylanica, also known as the 'snake plant', originates from West Africa. Specifically, it can be found from Nigeria to the Congo. The plant is named after the Italian count and scientist Raimondo di Sangro (1710 - 1771) from San Severo.
Characteristics
The Sansevieria zeylanica is a houseplant with long, pointed leaves. The leaves grow upwards and have a green-grey colour with horizontal stripes that are darker in tone. The plant can reach a height of an impressive 75 to 120 cm. Additionally, under favourable conditions, the plant will flower - this happens through a long stem which white flowers grow on. However, flowering indoors rarely occurs.
Care
The Sansevieria zeylanica is a strong, low-maintenance plant. The plant thrives in almost all light conditions, but prefers indirect light. Overwatering can lead to rot, so it is advised to let the soil dry up in between watering schedules. The Sansevieria zeylanica grows relatively slowly and therefore doesn't require much fertilisation; feeding once to twice a year is sufficient. Further pruning is redundant considering the growth pattern of the Sansevieria zeylanica.
