Mammillaria bombycina
Product number : 4MABOKK32Origin
The Mammillaria bombycina is a type of cactus that originally comes from Mexico. More specifically, this plant can be found in the Mexican states of Aguascalientes, Jalisco, and Zacatecas. This cactus grows in its natural habitat on dry, rocky slopes.
Characteristics
The Mammillaria bombycina is a spherical, usually solitary growing cactus that can reach up to 20 cm in height and width. The plant is characterised by its densely populated, spirally arranged warts and long, silky, white hairs. These prickly hairs are accompanied by sturdy, curved spines in older specimens. The cactus blooms in spring with pink to purple flowers, which form a striking contrast against the grey-green colour of the cactus itself.
Care
The Mammillaria bombycina requires a well-draining cactus soil and a pronounced dry rest period in winter in preparation for the spring bloom. During the growing season, the cactus can receive moderate water, with it being important for the soil to completely dry out between watering sessions. The plant prefers a spot in full sun or semi-shade. For indoor cultivation, it is essential to provide sufficient light and where possible, some direct sunlight.
